Lately, I’ve been thinking about how being well doesn’t always have to come in a glass bottle, a morning routine, or a therapy session (though I love all of those too). Sometimes, it looks like bare feet on grass, sun on my face and watching my babies play outside.
Spring has a way of reminding us that the body knows. It wants to move. It wants to breathe. It wants to feel alive—not just indoors, but out there. We don’t have to go far to go out. It could simply be in our backyards.
Now that the sun is out, Maya, our little homebody, wants to be outside. She asks to play in the backyard and take walks in the neighborhood. She barely yearns for her iPad and sleeps so much better with less meltdowns. Something about nature grounds her. Maybe it’s regulating her nervous system.
This month’s theme is Wellness & The Outdoors. To me, this means spending time with nature. Whether it’s gardening or having picnic dinners at the park, we could all use fresh air and more sun–nature’s medicine.
If you’ve been feeling a little blah or burnt out, consider this your gentle invitation to get outside and feel something different. You don’t have to “optimize” it. Just show up. Sit on a rock. Smell a flower. Walk without headphones.
This is your permission slip to unplug and remember that you are nature too.
