If I had to choose my favorite month, it would be November. I’ve become more of a homebody as I get older. Living in the Pacific Northwest, it’s typically a slower season for real estate, and the weather makes nesting the perfect activity for a growing family. Plus, Thanksgiving has become one of our favorite holidays. It’s less about gifts and more about gratitude, which is one of the core values I live by. It’s become my default emotion—and it’s the antidote to pretty much… everything.

Growing up with very little in an immigrant household, we found ways to celebrate American holidays our way. Since our single mom couldn’t read in English, my two sisters and I started cooking our version of Thanksgiving dinners as soon as my older sister could read and follow recipes. This meant Stove-Top Stuffing, boxed mashed potatoes, pre-baked ham, canned corn, and store-bought sweet potato pie with Cool Whip. Not knowing any other way, this became our yearly tradition growing up.

Now that I have a family of my own, we’re creating our own traditions, like Brian frying a turkey. With the free turkey Mom gets every year, she makes Cambodian curry. I, on the other hand, pick out new recipes that are a hit… and sometimes a miss. Everyone contributes to making sides, while we prepare a family feast. While I love a full house of family and friends, my favorite part is when we go around the dinner table sharing what we are grateful for.

Sadly, this year will be a little different. My dad, who has always been at the dinner table, won’t physically be with us, but his presence will always be infused in our traditions.

Since we’re on the topic of gratitude, I’d like to thank EVERYONE who has supported my professional AND personal life in one way or another—from the “likes” to the private DMs, to choosing me as your real estate broker, to sending me referrals. From the deepest part of my heart, thank you, thank you, THANK YOU. 🙏🏽
